The Varsity football team lost a 18-14 nail-biter to Canarsie to exit the playoffs November 13.

Midwood showed heart, almost shocking the Chiefs, who had previously shut the team out 18-0 at Midwood Field during the regular season. The Hornets were down 18-0 again at halftime, but this time their defense began to hold while the offense fought back, barely coming up short.

“I feel like we tried our best, but we weren’t at our best,” Mr. Anthony Odita, the head coach, said. “Canarsie has a really good defense, but we still powered through it. All the coaches felt that our players did their level best.”

The Hornets finished 5-4 during the season, good for 6th place in the division.

“I think that we played hard and showed toughness,” said Jorel Liverpool ’22, a wide receiver. “It just didn't end how we wanted it to end.”

“We started off strong, but we had a couple plays that we messed up,” said Xzavion Isaac ‘22, a running back. “The team gave it their all. That’s what counts.”

The Chiefs later fell to Erasmus, the eventual division champ, 23-13, on November 20.

“To us, [this loss] is just another stepping stone,” said Isaac. “There’s always motivation, even when we lose. We’ll use it as a time to see how we can improve as a team so that we can eventually bring home the state championship.”
