And the Winner for Best Halloween Candy Is…

Trick-or-treaters have spoken: Kit-Kats are the best Halloween candy, and candy corn is the worst.

Rounding out Midwood students’ list of favorites are Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Twix, and M&Ms, an Argus poll found. Students’ least favorite treats beyond candy corn are licorice, Twizzlers, butterscotch, and mints.

The poll was sent out to students on October 26, five days prior to Halloween. Of the 270 participants surveyed, 51% were juniors, 35% were freshmen, 10% were seniors, and 4% were sophomores. By gender, 54% were female and 42% were male (the rest didn’t say). The Argus hoped to capture schoolwide opinion and save future generations from making our nation’s worst Halloween candy mistakes.

Kit Kat bars led the voting for “best” candy, with 41% of students choosing it among their favorites. “Kit Kat is so good that I pass away and then rebirth when I eat it,” said Maimoonah Warraich ‘24.

Sour Patch Kids came in second place with 33%. Skittles came third with 30%, and M&Ms and Twix tied for fourth with 27%.

“With Twix, you get caramel, cookies, and chocolate,” Isabella Shalumov ‘22 said. “What else can you ask for?”

Candy corn was deemed the very worst Halloween candy by 45% of students. It “literally doesn’t taste like anything,” said Astha Islam ‘22. “I don’t know why it’s colored orange when it doesn’t even taste like it.”

Licorice is the second worst, according to 40% of respondents. Twizzlers are the third worst, with 19% of votes, then came butterscotch with 15%. Mints are bad too, but only enough for fifth place, with 14%.

“Oh my god,” Tasfa Alam ‘22 said. “I hate all of those. They’re disgusting. They’re like manufactured pieces of chemical candy.”
