With the booming sounds of drums and the attention-grabbing songs of the trumpets, one could not have missed the marching band’s incredible sound as they made their way to Midwood Field for Homecoming.

Throughout the football game, the band kept the spectators captivated by adding a lively energy to the game as they played and supported Midwood’s varsity team. The band’s thundering instruments could be heard up and down the block near Murrow High School.

“The band’s music kept the intermissions and breaks during the game more exciting,” said Nicholas Mandel, a spectator during Homecoming. “If the band wasn’t there, it would not have been as fun as it was.”

The marching band practices in the basement next to the B staircase from 5-6 p.m. after school. The head of the band, Mr. Alexander Jung, tries to keep a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

During the march, “Mr. Jung was really supportive,” said Alvin Redzematovic, a junior on the band. “He didn’t pressure us or make us feel stressed.”

Ani Kuki, a sophomore in the band, said, “He’s like a friend, not a teacher.”

The musicians are committed to their craft. Kuki said, “I came during my free periods and took my instrument home.”

While homecoming was definitely a success for the band, they aren’t done performing yet. Having also put on a Halloween Concert, they have several other performances ahead, so those who missed Homecoming still have an opportunity to see this amazing band in action.
