The girls swim team started off their season with a 49-45 victory against James Madison High School before accumulating two more victories against New Utrecht and Fort Hamilton High School. As of October 21, their overall record stood at 6-4.

The team has started practicing with new coach Lindsey Pero and has new captains Alana Neria ’20 and Kymora Corbett ’20 to lead them.

“Of course we miss Coach Goldfarb, but it was a good choice of hers to bring in Coach Pero,” said Emily Kopp ’21. “We can tell Coach Pero wants the team to succeed. She really tries hard to get us practice time since there aren’t many pools available for us to use.”

Neria said, “Throughout the years, my captains have inspired me and supported me through everything. I wanted to be exactly like them and be a good role model who can encourage my team.”

The team is preparing to go toe-to-toe with Brooklyn Technical and Millennium High School. With great leadership, teamwork, and perseverance, they hope to be just as formidable.

“If you support each other and count on one another, there’s success,” said Rachel Lam ’21. “We don’t win every meet. But we have each other’s backs and encourage each other, so the next meet we do even better.”

Fion Hon ’21 said, “Coming in as a freshman, it’s always hard to make new friends and start conversations in class. But once I joined the team, I felt as if I already had this giant family that shared the same passions I do. They are my second family.”
